What amperage alternator? 700

Can anyone tell me the correct amperage alternator that came on an '84 760 T originally? A shop put a larger output alternator on the car years ago and every now and then it overcharges (volt meter goes into red). The engine wiring harness is new and I've replaced the voltage regulator (actually made the problem worse). The battery cables are also new. So, I want to try another alternator. I have here one from an '86 240 that needs a new brushes. My plan was to repair it and run on the 760.
