chocolate brown color of coolant contaminated the ATF of my 240 gl 200 1987

I had the radiator pulled out, temporarily fixed it via soldering the leak (since it is not yet made of aluminum) until I get a new one. I intend to flush the transmission using ordinary ATF, and then after thorough flushing and cleansing, use a synthetic brand of ATF. Do you recommend using synthetic ATF and what type?
