The tranny problem has pushed me to the point of dropping in the M41 that has been in my garage far too long.

Was going to install it with the B20 during the repaint but doesn't look like I'll get the chance to wait since the diagnosis of the M40 pretty much has me halfway to a swap.

Catch is that the car was originally an automatic and it has some creative engineering that doesn't allow room for an overdrive. I'll need to weld in some new mounting points for the crossmember to bolt up to. Already have them fabricated but this will be my first attempt at chassis welding.

What precautions are necessary for welding on a car chassis. Do I need to remove the fuel tank and gas line? Or can I just use shielding of some sort? I'll be welding with a MIG or a wire feed.

Luckily the welds don't need to be pretty, just deep enough to hold.

Any advice on welding this sort of thing? Probably happen over the weekend, I'll spend my evenings trying to prep everything in the mean time. As George said, at least the temperature is out of the twenties finally. And I do have a garage to do this in so it could be worse.
