frozen ignition switch! 900 1992

without any warning the ignition switch is locked - I've tried all the usual approachs. Also, the button on the shift sometimes takes some 'working' to get it to depress and allow shifting out of park.

Service record show a PNP replaced 12,000 miles ago.

Is the locked igntion related to PNP? What's going on? This is a fairly new car to me and I don't know its traits.
