I found an early 90’ 740 Turbo wagon I’m interested in.
The body is good but it will not start. The owner is a mechanic with a small repair shop. He is telling me that he bought the car with an engine problem and since then has rebuilt the engine completely with new bearings throughout, piston rings, oil pump, cam bearing etc. etc… claims he has around $1k in the engine rebuild. It will not start. It will turn over but will not start. He has checked the timing etc. etc. I have not look at it close but he maintains that it is getting fuel, and appears to be getting fire to the ignition system. It will turn over but will not start.
I think I can get the car for $1200. I really think the starting problem has to be something simple like the under hood fuse or the timing belt (also new) installed out of time.
If he can prove the engine was rebuilt, is there much danger in me losing on the deal.
Any thoughts on how to keep from getting burned are appreciated.
