1987 240 gl, AW 71 auto transmission 200 1987

Hi

After I bought my 240 gl, this is what I immediately noticed:

1. On "Drive" mode, shifting is only up to the 3rd gear with the "OD" indicator light not lighting up, despite depressing the OD button on or off.
2. Upon checking, we tried connecting/jumping the 2 wires inside the shifter (where the OD button goes in). On "Drive" mode, the transmission now shifts up to the 4th gear but the button does not lock on "OD", only when manually depressing the button will the OD indicator light disappear.
3. We tried replacing the Hella white OD relay with a Bosche relay and removing the jumper wire. On "Drive" it shifts up to 4th gear already. The problem now is the OD button does not stay on "ON" OD (when depressed, the OD indicator light remains "ON", meaning OD is off.

We have to reconnect the jumper wire just so OD remains ON. Otherwise, OD will be constantly on "OFF" position. Does this have something to do with the Bosche relay? Will replacing the OD relay with the original Hella relay solve the problem? I have tried replacing the OD switch, but the problem remained the same.
