How to replace the voltage regulator? 200

Mine's an '85 244 w/190K mi and the original alternator. Thought I'd be proactive and replace the VR inside the alt because the brushes eventually wear down.
Is it just a matter of compressing the brushes and carefully slipping it in or are there wires to contend with?
