960 Temp guage not working 900

My slow loss of coolant problem is a little more serious as my temp guage is not registering. Since my daughter drives the car, it's entirely within the realm of possibilities that the engine will lose all coolant and overheat while she drives and talks on her cell phone. Any suggestions for diagnosing and fixing the non-working temp guage?
