Need advice on a 1993 Volvo 940 that failed emissions:
Here is what failed:
HC
RPM: 1728
Reading - 158
NOx
RPM: 2291
Reading: 1969
and
NOx
RPM: 1728
Reading: 2745
The CO passed at 13.9 and the percentages were at .58 and .61 and the O2% was .5 and .6.
It has 207k miles. It has a bit of an overheating problem that I just fixed. I have put over $1000 in repairs for the cooling system, including valves and hoses, new brakes, radiator flush and the vacuum control switch/hose. I am being told that the car will need a new catalytic converter and an oxygen sensor to pass inspection. Short of getting rid of the car, any thought on it possibly NOT needing those repairs in order to pass inspection? I don't think financially I can do it and wanted some other opinions.
