1990 740 GL speedometer 700 1990

The speedometer of my now beautifull running 1990 740 is still erratic (on /off)with the cruise not working when speedo is off.
I bought a 1988 instriment cluster with everything the same except the speedo connector has 3 contacts instead of 4.
Can I make speedo work? I,m only interrested in speed/cruise and gas indicator.
The rest I can miss. Really I can get speed from a GPS unit but need the cruise control.
Anybody having any ideas?
