Excessive Current Draw, Main Fuel Pump 700

Did a +T 2yrs ago. 85 740. Did the greentops, ballast, computers etc. Starting to bog down when accelerating, suspected fuel delivery issues. (bosch 2pump system) Intank pump whirling and drawing about 2.8amps. Main pump(no excessive noise) drawing over 10amps. Suspected main pump dying. Replaced main pump with Autozone,(master brand). Same current draw. Where else can I look? Can the short hose intank being bad cause this excessive draw? I put in a fusable link for fuse #1 several yrs ago per brickboard. Fuse block showed signs of melting. When I was heading home, bogging, opened up access to fuses and felt around. The fusable link I put in was extremely hot, thats why I suspected main pump. Ideas please.
