Gas in the oil? Idle Control flooded with oil? 200 1992

Hello Brickboard-
I just got my uncles 240 wagon and had a hard start issue with it. I took it to my local mechanic and he said that gas had gotten into the oil and flooded everything. the idle air valve was flooded with oil and the throttle too. is this common for a volvo? is there a leak somewhere?
