hub spacers/adapters 200

Have any of you used hub adapters to widen your car's rear track or to install different offset wheels? A wider rear track certainly enhances a 240's looks, but how about its steering and traction?

There's a gent in Alberta named Dale who makes and sells aluminum bolt-on hub adapters for these purposes.

Why aluminum rather than steel or whatever the hub is made of? I think steel would be superior to aluminum from a longevity and cost standpoint.
