All warning lights went out, car runs but doesn't charge 700 1991

HI , new poster here. I have several Volvo's in my family. This one, a 91 740 turbo, died suddenly a few times, after several miutes started up again each time. The check engine light came on and stayed on for 2 days, then went away. I checked the failure codes but it showed 1 - 1 - 1 . When I started the car again, no dash warning lights came on, and the car went dead the next day. All fuses are good, the car starts right up, after charging the battery. Ther were no charging issues prior to this. Alternator wiring looks good, ground is good too.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
