Hello all,
Stripped away some paint and did some grinding today. Looks like rear quarterpanel replacement is needed on both sides, essentially "round the curve" to the valence. Some old shoddy repair and bondo work from back in the day has come back to haunt. Time to cut out the problem entirely, so to speak.
I have recently heard of some issues with sheet metal from 1800.com, Don Thibault;s shop. I know he and his parts are well-respected, but the guy I am working with has restored an 1800 before, and said the metal he got from there was off by more than just an inch. Significant cutting was needed to make it work.
Does anyone else have suggestions about sheet metal for the rear quarter panel, valence, and rocker skins? Rockers themselves we will likely fashon from scrap.. perhaps same with parts of floor pans. Is there a source also for the "lip" under the fenders?
I have seen a couple of sources on the web but I'm hoping to hear of some personal experiences and endorsements.
(Also, maybe Is there a chance that the metal from Don's shop was maybe from the wrong year car, or perhaps the car my guy worked on had been modified before hand?)
