Battery drain S90-V90 1997

After starting with no problems through the past few weeks of 10-15 F weather, my 97 V90 (123K) would not start this a.m. The battery was so far down that the radio had turned off and (after a jump start) had to be reset with the code.

As I hooked the charger up, I noticed a very faint "ticking" noise (engine off). This seems to be coming from the air intake hose just aft of the air filter box. If I put my hand on this hose, I can feel a regular pulsing vibration, and there is some unit/solenoid mounted in the hose to which wires are attached. See pix.

Something electrical must be shorted out. Any ideas what it might be?
