1800E driveshaft balance

On the second piece of the driveshaft there a thin (18 gauge) piece of metal that was tacked on for balance....rusted and fell off. It fell off just past the center support bearing.
A drive shaft repair shop told me on the phone that I didn't need to worry about this piece missing and said he was also familiar with the Volvo drive shaft and didn't know why Volvo even did this.
Do you think it will be OK ?
