Hello all,
if my car dies because of a bad alternator, will I need to charge the battery (after I've installed a new alternator) for the car to start?

My car died while in motion and gave the death dash light warning flash so I suspect alternator, but I still have battery power to the door locks and dome light etc. I guess I'm just worried that I have a completely different problem than what I first suspected.

New alternator is - car doesn't turn over - but tries.
