Hi everyone,
I'm posting on behalf of my Volvo mechanic trying to give him a little help. He had a customer's '95 964 towed in yesterday. The owner said it died while driving and now it won't start. It turns over fine, but will not fire. The car has 210K km (~131K mi) on it and has had a few problems over the years. A t-belt pully failed around 170K km and took out the head which was replaced with a used one that had a burnt valve a few months later :( The head was rebuilt and since the car has been driven ~20K km and has started and ran well. Now it won't start. My mechanic has gone though common white block no start problems with no luck. The engine has spark, lots of fuel pressure at the rail, the injectors click, the relays have been swapped with no luck as has the crank and cam sensors (out of running cars). The *only* odd thing the car has done is apparently after he cranks it over for 3-4 min with the fuel pump relay unplugged and then just touches the relay into it's recepticle the car will rapidly fire (seems once on all cylinders) but will not start. If he tries to repeat the same thing will not work until after another 3-4 min of cranking. The t-belt is fine and the cams are turning of course. He tested the compression on one cylinder and it was low which he figured was due to the cylinder walls being washed down with fuel. The plugs are Bosch +4 and the one he took out wasn't fouled and looked fine. The only code from the computer is 2-1-4 (timing pick-up signal), but as I said, the crank and cam sensors have been swapped with known working ones... Anyway, any help would be great guys! I've searched the board a bit, but have found no answers...
