My '90 740 turbo wagon is pretty reliable, but is also in fairly ratty shape (the seats are shot, the headliner is beginning to fall, all interior platics are shot, it rattles, etc). It is also having a serious MPG problem (maybe the temp sensor: I haven't fiddled with it yet). It has 185,000 miles.

There is a much cleaner looking '93 940 turbo wagon for sale near by. It has 158,000 miles, and is listed at $2700 (I would pay maybe $2200). It is at a local used lot (I beleive he buys cars at auction and sells them fast).

Doing my own work, I've replaced many of the usual parts on the 740: engine tune up parts (timing belt, idle air valve, FPR, belts, hoses), plus the water pump, turbo hoses, alternator, the front end bushings, and the fuel pump(s). I'm sure there's been more along way.

My question is this (and I'm just looking for opinions here: If the 940 is in decent shape, and I find that it has no oil leaks, a strong engine and tranny, and the interior is in good shape, should I bite?

The temptation is that the 940 simply is in nicer condition, and we really like this "form factor." Our current 740 would be fine if it just didn't seem so beat. ONe advantage to the currnet car is that I know that many of the parts have been replaced.

A second question: what parts are interchangable? What known good parts could I swap from the 740 to the 940? Fuel pump? Alternator? Anything else?

Thanks for your thoughts. If I do this, I need to act fairly quickly.
