Esmerelda..my new 122 wagon. 120-130

Little old Esmerelda (temporary name) actually runs pretty good, once I got the old crap out of her carbs. It took a while to get her running, but it's a nice smooth running engine and good idle. Unfortunately, she smokes pretty bad, although she was much improved after about 15 minutes of running, yet the amount of vapor and blow by from the PCV system is kind of discouraging. Her miles are unknown, but I'm thinking it's more like 245K instead of 145K.. The rear main seal leaks like a sieve. Maybe that B20 will get yanked from the Mus-turd, but I'll probably check out my other B20 first.

Not knowing 122's too well, I suspect that the clutch is NOT powder actuated, though that's all that was in the master and slave cylinders.Pretty blue and green powder too. Anyone got some help here?

The left front caliper is pretty well seized, and I need a 1 1/4" socket to get the nut off the rear axles to check those brakes...bet they are bad too. (I do have an appropriate taper axle hub puller) Tie rods are shot, as is the center link, but I've got a new centerlink. Oddly, the steering box is tight, with lots of adjustment left. Ball joints are tight, but the boots are torn. Control arm bushings are toast. Rear diff has a lot of slop in it. Right front shock still makes a shadow in strong sunlight, but does little else. The other three aren't much better.

On the good side, there is very little rust, the floors and jack points are very nice, and she's pretty straight, though the Sherwin Williams paint job is pretty ugly. And whatever critter used to live in the back seat bottom is now occupying a corner of the garage that I can't get to, but the cat can.

So, a project she is...still no regrets.
