Squeaking ball joint? 700 1990

Anyone experienced this? I've got a front-end squeak while turning the wheel, and over bumps, that seems to be originating from the ball joint. There's no apparent play in it but I'll check it thoroughly on the hoist tomorrow. I've checked the usual suspects - radius rod bushings are fine, new swaybar bushings, and though I originally suspected the strut mount, the noise is definitely coming from the bottom end of the strut. I've never encountered a squeaking ball joint before, though... has anyone else?
