740T air filter not available in stores? 700

I called/went to just about every car parts store this week to buy an air filter for my 90 740T and found none of the stores (autozone only) stocked it. I got one for a $0.01 from the last Autozone that had it and was told that the product had been discontinued and this one I had was an accident that wasn't returned to the manufacturer.
The person I talked to said it had been discontinued by the manufacturer, but I couldn't confirm it.
Looks like there might be an availability problem in Kragen, Autozone, etc. from now on.
