Some of you may have seen my previous post in which I expressed concern about a front end squeak that appeared to originate from the left ball joint. Indeed that was the culprit, and in less than a week it went from having no play to having over 1/16" axial play; factory original, though, at 300k kms - no shame for it. All I could get for a replacement last night was an Ultra-8 (discount brand) ball joint, so I bolted it on, though I don't expect it to last long. The car now pulls very hard to the right, which suggests to me that the left wheel must now have excessive negative camber relative to the right. At a glance the cheapo replacement joint looks taller than the Volvo replacement on the right side, and it does not sit as flat against the bottom of the strut as the original. Since I'm not ambitious enough to measure and model the geometry of my 740's front end, at night, in the rain, to figure this out, I decided to ask: has anyone here had camber issues resulting from ball joint changes? I can't see being off too much, but how much relative camber difference does a 740 tolerate before pulling? This is noticeable at all speeds - as soon as I let go of the wheel, it takes off to the right. I've never felt it that bad before, not even with seized sliders...
