Possible Causes???? Need help! 200

Hello all!

My daughter just pulled in for the holiday in the
87' 240 wagon we gave her. She is reporting a loss of
power as she was driving up some of the mountains
she had to come over. She said the car just came up
the hills and steadily dropped in speed unitl it
crested the top then all was fine again.

I just drove the car around alittle and the kick
down seemed to be just fine. In fact the car really
kicks butt...lol.

She said it was just going up the mountains.

I am about to change the oil real quick and was
wondering if there is anything else I should check
out while I am working on the car.

Could this be the "cat"?
I don't know how old it is but judging by what
the P.O. did on the car (nothing) I am sure it
is old.

I did notice the fluctuating temp gauge as mentioned in
one of the other threads on here and I just figured the
board was going and I needed to get out the solder gun.

Could an overheating situation (if it is running hot)cause
these symptoms???

Any suggestions would be great!

thank you all!!!

Cheers,

karl
