Not a good day in engine harness land. 200 1986

Well pulled that old oil hard oily harness out of Inga and was making great strides installing the new one. Instead of pulling the intake manifold (I was afraid of that)removed the AMM and the two hoses either side of it. Then, and this was the mistake, pulled the Idle motor and both hoses by removing the bracket and hoses. You know the braket that is held on by two MOTOR MOUNT bolts. Was able to reach all other pesky under the manifold connectors no problem and was felling horsey. The injector connections were a breese doing this an you can reach everything. Was getting ready to brag about my new method to the BB. When it came time for the small under the block harness and the Alt and oil pressure connections. Had a heck of a time and there were some foul words said about what kind of stupid engineer would try to get connectors through such small openings. Finally got that done and then the first big problem. The Connector on the distributer is broke off and floating around. Just too much pulling and tugging getting the connector on and off. The only major debate about a connection going someplace, was which one was the knock sensor and the temp sensor. But got that worked out by doing a review of all those pictures. Brown goes to the front, yellow up and back some. But pulling the Idle Motor and the two hoses does allow you to see and reach everthing. But there is one thing.... Decided to put the rest back to together and was down to the Idle motor and the AMM. Could not get the bottom bolts to start on the Idle Motor bracket to start. Got some more light the dang motor mount has shifted and slipped about 3/4 of and inch. Must have moved when Inga was lifted so the lower harness could be removed and installed. The mounts were on the to do list for later, but dang it not now. The oil filter was getting harder to get on and off each time from the sagging of the other mount. Went ahead and installed the battery, ran the voltage checks and tired to start her without luck, No fire on the coil when you hold the wire to the block. Went over every connector on the checklist and found nothing. Of course there is that broken connector on the Distr.

Now for the weird part that is my life. The City is tearing out my street including the drive way tomorrow. I have complained about poor drainage and pot holes for the last ten years and suddenly out of the blue they are fixing it all. Have the Street Closed Sign and a Jackhammer rig on the side of the house right now. It will be three to four weeks before anything in my garage can be moved per the letter from the City. Decided that four weeks without a work car is not going to work and working out on the street around the corner where we will have to park is not an option. So had Inga towed down my mechanic of the last 24 years for some pro help.

Going to get the distr fixed, new rear end seal (that one was going to be his to do anyway), and new motor mounts. Oh and see if he can figure out what the ding dong who installed the harneess missed. Good thing Uncle Sam owed me my money back this year. But that was not what that money was going to go to. Demoting my self from a 3 or 4 back down to a 2. Should have put those bolts back in the mount dang it.

Sigh.......
