I have a 63 122 and it has the girling brake cylinders but until i get the drum off i cannot tell if they are the 7/8" or 1" cylinders. In order to have as little down time as possible on my daily driver as possible i would like to order cylinders ahaed of the pulling of the drum. My question is: Is there any difference? I assume so, but what does that difference entail, on another thread someone mentioned that it would be alright to change the cylinder bore as long as i did both of them, yet on another thread a little while ago someone had quite a problem with the flairs on the brakeline not meshing with the new cylinders he put on causing brake fluid leakage.
This will be my first attempt at doing this job, and have the new shoes ordered from ipd a while ago, but they didn't mention that the shoes were cylinder specific or anything, so i have to guess that the cylinders (7/8 & 1) push the same shoes, but at differing preasures, due to the size of the bore, 7/8 bieng a slight upgrade from 1'.
So if i order some in advance so when i pull of the drum i could have them handy and not 4 days away, could i go with 7/8 on both sides, or if they are 1" do i have to stay with 1", i guess is what im getting at.
Thanx for any insight on this from those who have done it a thousand times over, i really wnat to know what im looking at before i break that drum off.
