Overdrive out, not relay or solenoid

Hi, I posted last week on this subject. My overdrive is out on my 780 with 170k. It seems to be intermittent, but seems to be working less and less. My neighborhood mechanic verified that it was in fact a overdrive problem and checked the solenoid and said it was working as should. He said to bring it to a transmission place. He said maybe the bands needed adjusting, or something similar. The fluid level is fine and the fluid is still red colored.

Do you think he is correct or should I have a second opinion before I bring it there? He said that the relay is fine and that he feels that the problem is in the transmission. I read the FAQ but there is not much in there beyond the relay and the solenoid. The easy fixes I guess.
