It's Alive, One Year Later. 200 1986

Yes this is long, but that never stopped anyone on this BB has it?

The Palm Pilot just popped up the reminder that next month Inga is due for her state inspection. That means she has been back on the Road for just over a year now. She was out of service for almost 14 months sitting in the garage.

Now with my tongue stuck firmly in my cheek here goes the description, Inga is a slightly dented silver in color, stock wheeled 1986 245DL with 206K, some sort of Red Block B230 oil covered Engine and a equally oily Auto Tranny. She has two deer, one possum, and a surprised looking coon to her credit. Needs just one more large mammal to be a full ace. There are some wild pigs down in the Clear Creek area near Kemah that have tried to get her number five just the other day. Squirrels are rats with a cute tails so they don’t count by the way. No cracks about a possum being a rat please, it is a marsupial mammal with a rat’s tail and Inga's was a big un.

This year thanks to all the advice and support of the 240 group on this BB. Inga has gotten the following:

A new Fuel Pump relay and a new Alt that solved the problems that got her put up in the first place. New Headlight Assembly on the drivers side and the D Shan repair of the other lens to get rid of moisture on the other. A set of Silver Star bulbs which are the must have for the non E-Code crowd. New rear taillight lens on one side and a donor one on the other. Driver’s side ball joint and tie rod end along with new struts. Brake pads and new rotors on the front end. New oil sending unit and connector brought on by trouble shooting a oil pressure light coming on suddenly when decelerating. Turned out to be of all things a defective STP oil filter from Auto Zone. Did the temp compensator board bypass (yes you should do it). A frozen water pump bearing lead to a donor metal radiator, new hoses, belts, and water pump. Flushed all that brown stuff from the tranny by using 14 quarts of fluid from another D Shann link (http://volvo2.homestead.com/aw70.html). Replaced all the bulbs in the center console (there is light in a 240 at night). The blower motor replacement was thanks to a combo of D Shans dash removal, the Yard Sale on Cleanflametrap.com and of course good BB advice. Added a large Tach, repaired and added a little clock (cleanflametrap), fixed the Odometer finally, and recently added a donor voltmeter. Installed fog lights with one of those cool center dash fog light switches (my own circuit). Replaced a defective Overdrive relay that hummed like a seat belt buzzer when it failed. Found and replaced all the missing trim including the hard to find one that goes under the head light and around the side. Replaced the breather box, flametrap, along with several other hose and fittings to solve the pressure build up in the block. Replaced the radio two times, the 2nd time to get a IPOD input (Love it). Added speakers to the back two panels of the back seat (3 inch dia). Replaced the in tank pickup fuel pump (died at idle). Replaced a busted sway bar tie rod. Replaced a open water thermostat. Found and installed a Pick UR Part find replacement Engine harness. Had a pro install a donor distributor replacing the one the idiot owner busted, then fix the slipped engine mount (also see the part about the idiot owner), and install a new front seal on the differential.

Also and these were important also, found out exactly what worked best for holding your coffee in the morning and lets keep that stuff about the coffee enema out of this thread this time what say! Still have had to fight this urge every time I see that can of Seafoam sitting there to see how much smoke really comes out. There was a whole lot more but this is what comes to mind right now.

Please accept a big thank you, with a tip of the hat from Inga and I for all of the help this past year. Could not have done it without you input and support and looking back it’s really been fun, well most of it.

Many Thanks,

PT
