Poly cone bushings 900 1992

I replaced the balljoints on a 944Ti this weekend.

I had planned to replace the cone bushings with a poly set that I had on hand. I have replaced the bushings on two 740's using the poly and have never had a problem.

This time it would appear that I got a set of the ones that use the steel sleeve that is 10mm longer. I was not aware that there were two different types until I consulted the FAQ's yesterday. Evidently the ones I had replaced before were "standard" as there was no conflict with those. It is obvious that the ones I had yesterday were going to change the steering geometry and I am not really interested in doing that along with the associated front end alignment.

I will call Nick tomorrow and talk to him but I find it weird that some of the poly bushings are standard while others are obviously different. I believe the ones I had used in the past were red while the ones I have now are blue.

Do you think I could carefully remove enough material from the three components to bring them down to "standard"? Would that involve removing 10mm from the sleeve and 5mm from each bushing half?

Randy
