76 242 dl (b21f) smog pump question 200

when i purchased my 76 242 dl b21f two years ago it had the smog pump removed. the owner provided the old smog pump (removed from car). Not requiring emissions testing here, i never re-built the old one, it is still sitting in my garage. I have a few questions i hope some knowledgeable "brickboarders" can help me with.

the smog pump has a "GM" stamp on it...a Volvo with a "GM" part? is this the original pump?

i want to know if it is safe to drive the car with out the smog pump installed?

also, The plumming has been re-routed (by the old owner). does any one have info on the plumbing schematics so I can check that it has been re-routed properly.

lastly, the engine has high crank case pressure (the old loose oil filler cap trick- the cap nearly blows off). there is a hose from the smog pump control valve(still on the engine) that is open to atmosphere, if i put my finger over this hose the engine has a very loud "ticking" noise (?very high crank case pressure?) I am wondering if the high crank case pressure is caused by the missing smog pump/re-routed air lines?

The engine runs great otherwise, but i don't want to drive it to much untill i get more info on the smog pump.
