Exhaust Shroud Rattle Question -1993 245 200

My wife's 93 has developed an annoying rattle in the exhaust system. There is a shroud on the horizontal section of the downpipe where the system goes from two pipes down to one. The shroud is sort of Y shaped, about seven inches long, and is totally loose. Can I just cut if off and toss it? It doesn't come closer than a couple inches to any other part of the car. There will even be a bit more clearance when it's removed.
