Timing belt failed with only 33,000 miles - engine destroyed 900 1993

Hi everyone,
I purchased a 1993 960 about 6 months ago from a second owner. The car only has 88,000 miles on it and the engine plaque states that the belt was changed at 55,000 miles. The previous owner stated they didn't have the maintenance records, but the car was serviced at a Volvo dealer. The engine isn't getting any compression and my mechanic believes the valves are bent. Do I have any recourse against the Volvo dealer who did the service at 55,000 miles? Does Volvo retain records of when cars were serviced and what service was performed? Is it cheaper to get a replacement engine or have the valves and and pistons replaced? I was planning on changing it at 90,000 miles, so I'm obviously pretty dissapointed.

Thanks,
Steve
