WTB Dana and Girling parts.
Two drums, round, with less than .060 missing from the 9" inside diameter. I will be happy to pay a fair price. $250 each for new is not a fair price.
My drums are not round. I could live with the on/off braking from the rear but I cannot live with the noises. After brake application the shoes are very close to the drum. As the out-of-round drum rotates the high spot engages one of the shoes (the trailing shoe, I think) catching and dragging it. With only residual pressure, the shoe is free to follow the drum. It gets pulled and cocked. The screeching and scratching that accompanies this motion is very scary. Once the pistons have receded enough to allow the shoes to fall away from the drum, the noises cease. At least this is what I think is going on.
I need item 4 in the picture. I need one for both sides of the car. I call them spreader bars, Volvo called them "links". I believe these parts are damaged because of a combination of the problem described above and the problem described below. If someone knows differently, please advise. This part is not available new as far as I can determine.
My brakes are also missing the spring clips, item 5. I am guessing these help hold the spreader bar (link) straight and flat. The missing clips may be why my bars are so badly damaged. Also not available from any source I can find.
I would really like to replace the left axle too. The threads are damaged. I bought a new castle nut that does cinch up against the drum -- without a washer. If I put a washer behind the nut there are not enough healthy threads for the nut to engage. I don't have warm fuzzy feelings about this arrangement.
If you have these parts please contact me here on the board, sdewolfe-AT-cricketlady.com, or 903.520.0961.
