As I have noted in my previous post, my 91 240 wagon's performance has been lackluster since I bought the car 15,000 miles ago.
Today, I checked the timing belt that was replaced by the dealer 30,000 miles ago. After aligning the crank to TDC, I found that the cam gear would not align with the top cam mark until the crank harmonic balancer mark was moved over an inch past TDC. The topped out piston in number one cylinder aligned with the balancer mark at TDC, ruling out the balancer. Could it be that the dealer simply backed the cam off a tooth? The motor runs smooth otherwise for 30,000 miles. Would this explain why it seems to be running a little retarded? (girlfriend thinks I'm crazy and running a little retarded) If this is the case, do I simply loosen the tensioner, take the cam gear off and realign the cam gear or listen to girlfreind and do nothing??
If you have read the previous post, the starting `miss for the most part cleared up with fresh gas.
