got engine wet 200

My friend washed the engine on his '88 240. Now it misses badly and has lost power. At idle the engine shakes badly. I replaced the plug wires but that didn't help. I checked all of the electrical connections (like the fuel injector connectors, etc.) but found them to be dry. Maybe someone has other suggestions? I also checked inside the distributor cap and it is dry.
