antifreeze leak 900 1996

My 1996 960 wagon has an antifreeze leak. It seems that the junction from the hose from the engine and the nipple from the heating core is the problem. I tried to patch it up but didn't work. In fact now I got antifreeze inside the car on the floor. Can I just bypass the heater core (since it is such a pain in the neck to change it)? How can I test the heater core to see if it holds preassure? Thanks
