New to me 93 .. First time wife drives ... 200

the car it stalls on her in the middle of the rotary. About the only place with serious traffic in the whole county!I haven't driven it yet but she says the check engine light is on, it drives fine in reverse, stalls in drive. Had it towed home and I'll attack it tomorrow (day off) ... with a little help from you my friends. Any thoughts?
