'89 740GLE (240K miles). During winter months (below 30°F), car would crank but not start, not even sputter, but when the temp rose about ~35°F she would turn right over. I figured the fuel filter was clogged and went to replace it. After replacing filter I believe I cross wired the main fuel pump.
Will this damage the pump?
I removed the main pump and put a head of gas into the inlet and applied the leads (both options) and no fuel was observed to flow through the pump even though she vibrated when hooked up in one of the twp possible wiring configurations. With the main pump removed, I was not getting any fuel flow from the tank pump.
Its seams really unlikely that the main and tank pumps would crap out at the same time. If it is the fuel pump relay how do I check the tank pump for proper voltage?
Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.
Phil
