Hello all,
I recently had the odometer stop working on my 89 240
It's the K10042 model.
It originally stopped working because the little gear in the odometer lost a tooth. Fair enough, I purchased a new one from odometergears.com, installed it and...nothing!
So far I have:
-Cleaned all the connections coming off of the back of the instrument cluster that connect to the speedometer
-Resoldered all the connections on the board that the odometer is actually turned by (the board on the LEFT, if you are looking at the back of the speedometer)
-Jiggled the connector to no avail while I was driving, hoping to see SOMETHING happen, and yet, nothing still.
-I even ran a thin layer of solder down the three areas on the board that the three-wire plug that connects to.
Speedometer still works great. I marked the back of the little magnetic drive (the brown bit that has a black gear connected to it that turns the whole works) with a spot of white out, and I noted that it has yet to move. If I turn the odometer by hand with the gears, it works just fine.
I think I either have a power issue occuring on the odometer board, or there may not be juice coming out of one of the three wires that plugs into the back of the unit.
At this point in time, I have no idea where to turn, except to purchase another K10042, reset the odometer to read the correct mileage, and throw in my new plastic gear.
Help, please!!!
