I just put new tires on my 88 745 a couple thousand miles ago. They are 205/60-15s, on 6x15 aluminum wheels. Yesterday I noticed the beginnings of feathering wear on the outer edge of both front tires. It's not serious yet, just barely enough to see. Can't really feel it either. As far as I know, there is nothing wrong with the front end---the car drives nicely, with no play in the steering, and tracks dead straight on a level road. Ball joints and strut rod cone bushings were new a year/20K miles ago. At the same time I replaced the steering rack, which was leaking, with a good used one, and got it aligned. I haven't hit any major potholes since then, and I don't drive on a lot of really bad roads or anything. The tie rod ends (and everything else) were good enough to pass inspection a month ago. (at a shop that does front end work, so if anything was suspect, I would have thought they would have have tried to sell me the job) I plan to jack the car up for a thorough examination of the front end some time in the next few days, before taking it in for another alignment. What should I pay particular attention to, or am I just cornering it too vigorously ;-) ??
