240 AC PROBLEM! 200 1990

Okydoky, where to begin... First off I love this board, I've been a closet reader-non member for about 6 months and just joined the other day when I picked up a backup 240 stick off a wrecking service. That said. My problem is this.

I have a 1990 240 DL and I've had it for a little over 2 years, first year I had it I didnt have AC. My dads a mechanic and he installed a new expansion valve, and reciever dryer and we replaced the blower and he recharged it with genuine R12 that hes been hording. Worked wonderfully for the past year exactly. I mean ice cold. Today on my way to work(where I'm writing this from) I was smoking a ciggy and and driving with the radio on, ac on, windows cracked so I dont stick etc. When at a stop light I noticed some smoke billowing from under the hood, no strang noises though. Turned AC off, smoke stopped, ON smoke returned off, smoke stopped etc. Well by the time I got to work I had the AC on, still now sounds, no more smoke, No more 45 degree air coming out of my vets, I'm not sure whats up. I park in a pretty dark garage, and I only had about 5 mins to look, but it seems that the smoke was coming from the big cylindrical things behind my drivers side head light, I dont know what it is, I thought it had to do with AC. it also looked like there was grease oir oil all over it. Fresh grease or oil. could this sob be the problem. Like I said, there wasnt any squealing belts, the only other odd correlation was that the Check engine light flashed on once right after start up. Let me know... someone help please please the suspense of the problem is killin me, sorry I'm a wind bag!
