My car has been showing the symptoms of the a bad temp compensator board , eratic readings, yesterday the gauge went to almost redline, and since it was it was in the 90's here, you cant help get nervous. I have an infrared Thermometer, (its actually marketed for fishing, to tell water temperature, I got it a benefit auction for only $30, http://www.norcrossmarine.com/products/IR101SP/overview.htm). When the gauge was at its peak, it read about 197 to 200 F, about 92 C, which I think is the set point for the thermostat, so I was comfortable the car wasnt over heating.

I ordered a new board, but the more I thought, why not try the bypass for a few day, till the new board arrives.

Ive read the posts on using lamp cord, which sounds fine, but I wanted a better fit. I didn't want to solder and go to a point of no return. I thought the IPD kit a little overpriced.

I went to Radio Shack, and picked up a 9 pin D-Sub connector. The pins come loose, and you crimp them on the wire, and insert into the connector shell. These are just the right size for the terminals on the instrument circuit board. I crimped two pins on a short piece of wire, used the old compensator board as a template for size and forming. Its slipped right on the pins. Looking at the IPD site, this is probably all they do for the $15 kit.

My cost was $1.79 for the connector.
