240 Drive Line Clunk 200

My 240 has an odd clunk when driveing . . . I'll attempt to discribe it here and am seeking some opinions & maybe a little guidance.

When driving along in any gear (5spd), if I lift my foot off the gas - and then accelerate hard - there is a noticable loud single clunk from under the car in the back end. It is not really metallic or grinding but a duller loud clunk.

Now this happens regularly when you ease around a corner and accerlate out of it. I have altered my driving so I'm not accerlating aggressively, sort of driving like your grandmas, grandma and avoiding the clunk - but that fits my personalty. But when my wife drives it, and I am riding with her - it drives me nuts. Because she is causing many clunks!

I've lifted the back end and crawled under there . . . nothing seems amiss, all the suspension is there, the bushings appear solid, the U-Joints seem solid. I'm afraid it is inside the rear differential . . . or tranmission!

This is all vague, but I thought I'd bounce it out on the brickboard before I hired a professional to diagnose this and charge me.

Thanks for any insight, opinion, jokes or guidance.
Stephen!
