Starting riddle... How good R U? 900 1992

My 1992 960 will only start the second time I crank the engine. It will VERY rarely start on the first attampt. I can usually crank it all day on the first attempt and it won't turn over. It will always start immediately on the second try. I've been living with this for years. I just wanted to see if anyone could figure this one out.
