Oil seal question 200 1992

Hello all,

I'm in the middle of a timing belt and oil seal change, and have a question.

I know to oil the inner edge of the seal that rides the shafts, but how should I handle the outter edge that contacts the block?

Should it be installed dry or oiled? Would oiling it promote future leaks?

Some people in the FAQ use sealant, I don't want to do that because of the problematic clean ups during the next seal change.

I look forward to your advise.

Thanks,
