Install '86 Turn Signal Stalk in '91 240? 200 1991

The turn signal/cruise switch in my '91 245 broke and I found one from an '86 in a salvage yard. The salvage switch has the same part number and the guy said it was interchangeable with mine if I spliced the connector coming from my cruise switch into the '86 wiring.

Problem is that the wire colors don't match and although I've been reading about it here in the archives and looking in my Bentley manual, I still can't get it right. I've wired it into the car and road tested it. I can get the cruise control switched on and the speed set, but I can't get it to resume speed.

The wires coming from the cruise switch on my '91 stalk are red/blue, yellow/blue, blue, and white. The cruise wires on the '86 switch are red, brown, green, and yellow.

Could anyone tell me if the switches are interchangeable and if so, what cruise wire colors on the '86 correspond to the wire colors on the '91.
