Painting aluminum valve cover on redblock 200

I'm redoing the top of the engine and was planning on repainting the valve cover. I was going to use some red brake caliper paint because it is heat resistant, and because I have some. Before I started though, I was wondering if anyone had good or bad experiences doing this... what sort of paint did you use? How did you prep the surface?

Thanks,
