When I bought the 86 245 two years ago, I noticed that the idle did not compensate for load and was not able to correct the minor problem by IAC cleaning and throttle body adjustment. I ordered the Volvo green book for the 1986 240 wiring diagrams which came in last night. I also noticed that the car suddenly developed a starvation problem that momentarily shut it down while accelerating so the arrival of the book was timely.
The first thing that I found was that the connector for the IAC (BL/W, SB,and GR/R)were on the idle switch and vice versa. When the wires were swapped, the engine revved to the limited until the throttle was blipped, then repeated. I changed the ECU (#544) to a spare unit which would not fire the engine, (so much for an eBay purchase!) and ended up with an ECU from a 1985 740 (#541)which returned the operation to normal.
I have been looking for a reliable source for the 86 240 electrical schematics for the past 2 years and did not think of spending the $30.00+ on the Volvo original. It certainly paid off on this repair!
Regards,
