240 DL Manual Wagon SUCKING WATER

1986 240 DL wagon

PROBLEM: high temperature gauge, car using ONE GALLON of water within ONE HOUR
NO LEAKS, no white smoke out exhaust

My mechanic tells me that he has pressure tested the water system, no leaks.

#4 cylinder, spark plugs come out "clean" therefore he thinks leak going into engine, needing head gasket?


Any clues? Many many thanks!!
